Credit Reports Generally
A credit report is a history. You are entitled to an accurate history. Further, you are entitled to an annual credit report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, and Trans-Union) as per the Accurate Credit Transaction Act of 2003.
The one and only official website to order your FREE credit report is annualcreditreport.com. You can also order by calling (877) 322-8228.
When requesting your report, be prepared with your name, address, addresses used in the previous 24 months, social security number, and date of birth.
Fixing Your Credit Report
If you find errors in your credit report, you don’t need to hire anyone to correct them. In fact, many credit repair offers are scams. At best, such scams waste your money. At worst, such scams involve you in a crime. You can challenge information believed inaccurate. If the reporting agency can’t verify the accuracy of the information, it must be removed.
